This episode is Paloma's first major appearance.
Kelsey saying "J.P., I honestly never know what you're going to say." and this later being a major plot point is a nod to the fact that Michael Croner improvises many of his lines in the recording studio.
When Yustice is jinxed by Paloma, she ends up lying face down in the middle of a crater, referencing Yamcha's infamous death pose in Dragon Ball Z.
Paloma disappearing into a bush is a reference to Homer disappearing into a bush in the episode "Homer Loves Flanders" in The Simpsons.
