"The Cheese Stands Alone" is the 6th episode of the fifth season and the 166th episode overall of Craig of the Creek.
Synopsis[]
The group takes a break from their search for the Heart of the Forest.
Plot[]
The Stump Kids are looking for the cube piece Maya threw in the creek but haven't found anything. Omar suggests they take a break, but Craig makes a determined speech about how the creek needs them to find the cube and beat Xavier to the Heart of the Forest. Suddenly it starts to rain, and everyone runs home. After deciding he isn't going to do something productive but unrelated to the quest, like homework, Craig decides to watch the Haru - Prince of the Forest anime. He falls asleep and has a dream about the Witches telling his fortune from "Craig to the Future" about him no longer being friends with the rest of his group in a few years.
By the time he wakes up it's not raining anymore, and he goes to collect his friends to continue the search. Kelsey and Stacks are reading a new fantasy book together, and when they decide to keep doing that instead of finding Maya's cube, Craig presumptuously invites himself to hang out with them. Kelsey takes him aside and explains right now she just wants to hang out with Stacks. Without Craig there. This makes Craig see them as the teenagers who are going out with each other and not friends with him anymore. He leaves the library holding in a scream he lets out as soon as he's outside.
Next Craig goes to JP's house to hang out and complain, only to find out JP's texting Omar about a show they like that Craig always complains about. When he realizes he isn't being included by JP and Omar either, Craig sees JP as the teenage version who's manager of Smoothie Groovy again, and runs out of the house screaming (still holding JP's phone).
In desperation, Craig hangs out with Wildernessa. She turns out to share his opinions on the show JP and Omar like. This makes Craig say he appreciates her, but suddenly he sees her and Cheese Sticks as the future versions from his story too. This makes Craig go into a panicked rant about the future, including how in it, Craig and Wildernessa are dating, but how he wants to stay friends with his current friends, so he runs off to find the last cube. Wildernessa's takeaway is Craig's admission that he likes her back.
Soon Craig finds himself confronted by Xavier, who's also exhausted searching the entire creek for a little cube all by himself. Xavier surprises Craig by offering to team up to find it.
