Before working on a character page, ask if a character is even notable enough to require their own page. If they do not, a section can be created for them on one of the minor character lists. A character article's eligibility should be determined based on the following requirements; judgments will be applied at staff discretion.

Notable characters:

  • Have an official, non-conjectural, name or title.
  • Have at least one major role, as either a protagonist, antagonist, or story driver. This is a separate consideration from the "main" characters in an episode.
  • Have at least one additional supporting or major role.
  • Are not part of a larger group of characters that exclusively appear together (a page for the group should be created instead).
    • An exception is made for the members of Bad Moves due to them being real people guest-starring in an episode.

Article titles[]

Character articles should be named based on how they are credited in the Featured Voices section of the credits. If a character is not listed in this section, their name should be spelled as it is on modelsheets, as long as all available modelsheets agree with each other. If there is no agreement between modelsheets, the page name will be determined at a staff member's discretion.

The Manual of Style section on use of indefinite articles in page titles applies here.

Lead section[]

The top of a character page should not refer to the show (i.e. it should be written from an in-universe perspective). It should explain, in prose, who the character is, their first episode appearance, and other pertinent information, like their occupation in whatever order the writer sees best. It should finish with their voice actor.

An exception is made for the main characters; their page should clearly state at the top that they are the protagonist/deuteragonist/tritagonist of the series, and in Craig's case, should state that he is the titular character of the series. The rest of the lead section should be written from an in-show perspective.

For an example of a good character article, see Brigid.

Character infobox[]

All text in parenthesis should be surrounded by <small></small> tags for readability purposes. Parameters with more than three entries should be separated using bullet points. Characters with known last names should be piped to not show their last name for brevity in parameters besides family = .

Affiliation and occupation[]

The affiliation section of the infobox should be used to list a character's membership in different groups. For a group membership listing, the group name should be followed by founder/leader depending on which apply. The latter should be prefixed by "former" if the character is no longer part of the group (not just demoted). If a character has both active and inactive affiliations the active affiliations need to be specified. Some characters may have a more specific role, such as George, who is the Tea Timers' servant. Below are some examples.

If a character is promoted to leader from a custom/specific role (but not member), the infobox would read "Group Name (leader; former custom role)". If a character is demoted from leader, it would read "Group Name (custom role; former leader)". These template parameters should not be present in the infobox for unaffiliated characters. All of this is applicable to group infoboxes as well. If a character has no specific role within a group, only the group name should be listed.

The occupation section should be used only for characters who are/were employed, or are in higher education (college-level equivalent or higher, in which case it should be specified (college student (graduation status specified if possible), graduate student, etc.)). The job title should be listed first (employee if unknown), followed by "at Company Name" (or "of", whichever seems more correct), then finally that occupation's status if multiple are listed.

Family[]

Named family members should be listed first. A family member should only be added if they are at least mentioned in the series. The order based on relationship is as follows (any of these may be plural): father, mother, older brother, older sister, twin brother, twin sister, younger brother, younger sister, pet, grandfather, grandmother, uncle, aunt, cousins. Please note that this order is specified only to prevent edit wars over the arrangement of family members.

For siblings, age superlatives (youngest/oldest) should only be used for characters with two siblings of the same gender who are both older or both younger.

Unlike all other uses, character names should not be piped to display only their first name.

Friends and enemies[]

Friends and enemies can be listed in any order, but in general members of the same group should be kept together. If a relationship has changed from enemies to friends or vice-versa, their previous status should be suffixed with (formerly). Crushes and romantic relationships should also be mentioned, and declared as such. Family members should not be listed as friends or enemies.

First appearance[]

If a character first appears in the pilot, this should be noted in the infobox and incorporated into the page overview prose. The pilot is not a part of the series though, so the episode in which a character first appears should also be noted, followed by "(series)".

Physical appearance[]

Character appearances should be described as objectively as possible. Terms used should always be neutral. Both natural appearance and outfit appearance should be described, each in separate paragraphs or subsections as appropriate. Physical traits also belong here.

Personality[]

The personality section lists character attributes as they might be described by an objective in-universe observer, and as such should not make reference to episodes except in citations. Characters that seem to break the fourth wall can be noted as such, though. Any information about a character's personality, down to extremely specific tastes, can be listed, as long as canonical information supports the claim.

Relationships[]

The relationships section lists all of a character's family members, friends, and enemies, and other characters who have directly interacted with them. Section titles should consist only of a character's name, and be piped to only display their first name and link to the character's page. Family members are listed first, in the order they are listed in the infobox, followed by friends and enemies in order of the significance of their relationship.

Episode appearances[]

The episode appearance section lists the episodes a character is featured in, and the nature of their feature. It uses the appearance templates {{AppearanceS1}}, {{AppearanceS2}}, {{AppearanceS3}}, {{AppearanceS4}}, {{AppearanceS5}}, {{AppearanceS6}}, {{AppearanceMovie}}, and {{AppearanceShorts}}. The template documentation pages explain how to use these. If a character appears in the pilot, it should be listed as a single bullet point.

Some characters, such as Jackie and Goo, are not voice-acted. The term "non-speaking" should not be used for any of their roles.

Trivia[]

The character trivia section is used to list miscellaneous information of some note that does not fit into the rest of the article. This non-exhaustive list should be checked against before adding or removing trivia from a character article.

What trivia is[]

  • Significant episode appearance information that connects to other characters in some way, such as superlatives
  • Information about a character's design
  • Information about early concept art that is not canon and would not belong in an in-show description
  • Information about a character that would have been included in a cut scene
  • Dubbing differences, such as gender or personality
  • Character homages and references
  • Recurrence of particular plot themes, locations, and objects
  • Other information about a character that would not make sense from an in-universe perspective

What trivia is not[]

  • Information already directly stated elsewhere in the article
  • Insignificant coincidental resemblances to other media
  • Information not connecting to the character
  • Information explicitly stated in-universe

Gallery[]

The gallery section should consist only of {{Gallery}}, which creates a link to the character's gallery.

Bottom[]

The bottom of a character article consists of {{Reflist}}, a line break, {{Character navbox}}, another line break, and age and role categories.

Role categories[]

For the purpose of Category:Single-appearance characters and Category:Secondary characters, a "major role" is defined as a character with significance to an episode's plot or having at least two non-consecutive lines of dialogue. Otherwise, the role is minor.

Age categories[]

Only one age category should be applied to a character. The most specific correct category should be used, with the exception of preteens, who should also be placed in Category:Children. The different age categories are: Category:Children, Category:Preteens, Category:Teenagers, and Category:Adults. The category pages explain the age cutoff for each category; if none is specified, best judgment should be used.
